The name “Vanquish” is one only identifiable to British carmaker Aston Martin and is the pinnacle of English Grand Tourer design. The Aston Martin Vanquish was first built between 2001-2007 during which time it was famously used by fictional character James Bond in the film Die Another Day. Between 2008-2011 the Vanquish went by another name, DBS, before coming back in full swing in 2012 under the Vanquish name and a full redesign. The Aston Martin Vanquish is most notably characterized by the beautiful front end combining the looks of a shark with glossy carbon fiber and aluminum. From the side, the Vanquish appears nearly perfectly proportioned while the rear utilizes a built-in spoiler and a sporty twin-pipe exhaust.
The Aston Martin Vanquish is powered by a 5.9L V12 producing 568-hp and 465 lb/ft of torque. The power from that massive V12 is sent through to rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic allowing the Vanquish to sprint to 60 mph in only 3.8 seconds. Usually seen on track-going vehicles, the Vanquish comes standard with large carbon ceramics capable of stopping you safely in any situation. A three-stage adjustable suspension can be changed from a normal comfort setting to a racy track mode (although it most likely won’t see much use).
The interior of the Vanquish is beautifully crafted and features a unique honeycomb-stitching pattern along the seating surfaces. The central media system layout resembled that of a waterfall and features glass buttons that give tactile feedback in the form of a small vibration. Although the system looks beautiful the flat buttons are not the easiest to use while on the move. The flip-up navigation is a bit dated and appears to come from a 2007 Volvo. However all this is forgotten when you are able to push in that gorgeous glass key and hear the glorious V12 scream to life.
The Aston Martin Vanquish is widely considered the best of the grand touring sports cars and it certainly has the ability to back up this thinking. With it’s perfectly styled exterior, handcrafted interior, and that sonorous V12 moving you along, the Aston Martin Vanquish is capable of making anyone think they can be Bond, James Bond. The Aston Martin Vanquish competes with other elite grand touring cars such as the Mercedes S65 AMG Coupe, Ferrari F12, and Bentley Continental GT.
