Audi A8 L
The A8 is Audi’s flagship model. With a number of engine and passenger layout options, the A8 is also one of the most customizable vehicles in Audi’s fleet. Now only available in a long-wheelbase configuration, the A8 offers plenty of room for all vehicle occupants. An all aluminum frame construction only weighing 509 lbs helps to keep the overall weight lower than that of the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes S-Class meaning a more nimble, luxurious ride. The Matrix LED headlights that are arranged in a “wing” pattern further adding to the vehicle’s prestige characterize the A8 L. The subtle creases and folds in the aluminum body also give the A8 L a more athletic appearance than its competition.
Three unique powertrains ensure there is an A8 L to fit every profile. The economical 3.0L Supercharged V6 is perfect for the long highway cruisers while the twin-turbo 4.0L V8 sport model is better suited for those who want a more enjoyable driving experience. Looking to really stand out from the crowd? The 6.3L W12 with 500-hp might seem like the perfect vehicle for those wanting the extra power however the W12 has been uniquely tuned to deliver power as smoothly as possible. No matter which engine option you choose, power is sent through a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels via Audi’s unique Quattro AWD system. Audi’s configurable Drive Select system allows the driver to totally customize the driving experience, even raising and lowering the ride height of the air suspension.
The interior is where the A8 truly shines. The first thing noticed inside the cabin of the A8 L is Audi’s MMI system complete with touchpad and dial controls giving you complete control over all vehicle systems. The seats can also be fitted with a massage function for those longer drives while the rear seats can be arranged in either the standard five-seat or a four-seat configuration complete with an additional MMI unit to control the optional dual 10-inch entertainment screens for rear occupants. Making sure those your occupants are kept safe and comfortable are a number of advanced safety systems including Audi Pre Sense Plus, Active Lane Assist, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, and even an optional night vision system capable of identifying pedestrians and even medium sized animals that would damage the vehicle in the event of a collision.
The A8 L has everything a luxury brand’s flagship should have: an elegant yet sporty design, a number of various engines including a smooth twelve cylinder option, and of course the best interior fit and finish the brand is capable of. It’ll be interesting to see what Audi comes up with for the next generation A8 expected in two years. The Audi A8 competes against the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class, and Lexus LS.
