The Buick Cascada is a vehicle that was never really expected to make it to us stateside. Based on the European Opel Cascada, the new convertible is Buick’s first since the 1991 Buick Reatta. The Cascada will certainly let you stand out from the crowd with features like standard 20-inch aluminum wheels, striking LED accented headlights and taillights, and the sleek convertible cloth top that can be raised or lowered in just 17 seconds. Don’t worry about getting caught out in the rain as that cloth top can also be raised in speeds up to 31 mph.
A small economical 1.6L four-cylinder engine powers the Buick convertible. Although that might seem too small to many, that small motor still produces a very respectable 200-hp and 208 lb/ft of torque. Although zippy enough for spirited city driving, the Cascada’s nearly 4,000 lb weight gives it a fairly slow 0-60 time of over eight seconds. The Cascada’s features a lowered, sport-tuned suspension while Buick’s HiPer Strut setup continues to ensure a comfortable ride. Keeping safety an utmost priority, heavy-duty rollover bars stay hidden out of sight keeping the clean convertible profile but will deploy instantly in the event of an accident to keep you and your occupants safe.
Although the open sky above you will be your primary focus, the Cascada’s interior is certainly worth a second look. You’ll stay comfortable in the Cascada’s leather appointed seats with 8-way power adjustability while the dual-zone climate control maintains the perfect temperature for you and your passengers. The seats also feature a multi-position heated seat function allowing you to put the top down on those chilly days. Inside you receive the latest generation of Buick’s IntelliLink® system complete with 7-inch touch screen and standard rear view back-up camera. Of course like most of General Motors vehicles, the familiar OnStar® system is available as well as an available 4G LTE hotspot keeping you connected on the go.
The Cascada is certainly a new approach for Buick. Combining an elegant European design, a spirited four-cylinder engine, and a beautifully crafted interior the Cascada is the perfect vehicle to lead Buick into the future. The Buick Cascada competes against the Audi A3 Cabriolet, Mazda MX-5 Miata, and Volkswagen Eos.
