Typically when you see a Dodge Charger your first instinct might be to hit the brakes to prevent yourself from being pulled over. However this latest generation Charger has been a hit with people besides the police. Refreshed for 2015, this 15-ft piece of American muscle has gone under the knife to become sleeker and overall more refined. LED lights around the headlights and in the lower front spoiler accent the Charger’s front fascia while a large banded taillight wraps around the trunk of the vehicle. Of course if you opt for one of the sportier trims such as the R/T or SRT Hellcat models you’ll see redesigned bodywork optimized for cooling and downforce.
The standard engine fitted to the Charger is 3.6L V6 delivering just under 300-hp but if that is not enough for you then sky’s the limit. The familiar Chrysler group 5.7L V8 packing 370-hp is also available and returns a respectable 25mpg highway. It’s when you look into the SRT models is when things become interesting. The Charger SRT model sends 485-hp and 475 lb/ft of torque to the rear wheels giving the vehicle a 0-60 time in the low 4-second range. With an output similar to some super sports cars, the 707-hp 6.2L supercharged V8 available in the SRT Hellcat propels the Charger to 60mph in a blistering 3.2 seconds and on to a top speed of over 200 mph. No matter which power plant you choose, it will be mated to an 8-speed transmission with optional paddle shifters letting you take full control whenever you want.
With an available nine different interior trims available, the Charger has an option for everyone. Regardless of what trim you choose, every Charger comes standard with keyless remote start. A wide variety of interior options are available ranging from heated and cooled seats to a large touchscreen multimedia system controlling everything from navigation to various vehicle settings. The system fitted to the SRT Hellcat models will even control power output so if you hand over the keys to the valet they can’t go for a joyride in your 707-hp family sedan. The Dodge Charger’s main competition includes the Chevrolet Impala, Chrysler 300, and Infiniti Q50.
