The Hyundai Genesis stands out by giving the middle finger to the traditional German mid-sized sedans.  Now in its second generation, the Genesis has been totally remade to become more athletic and luxurious. The new facelifted front fascia has an impressive 0.26 coefficient of drag allowing it to efficiently cut through the air resulting in better acceleration and fuel economy. New headlights and taillights incorporate LED daytime running lights for increased visibility while a longer wheelbase allows for more interior volume and a smoother ride.
The Hyundai Genesis comes standard with a 3.8L V6 producing 311-hp and 293 lb/ft of torque sending power to the rear wheels or all four if you opt for the HTRAC all wheel drive system. A larger 5.0L V8 is also available and boasts 420-hp and 383 lb/ft of torque but is only available with a RWD setup. A smooth shifting 8-speed automatic is standard on all models and can be controlled manually through the optional paddle shifters. An intelligent drive system allows the driver to pick between a number of driving modes ranging from “Eco” for better fuel consumption to “Sport” for athletic driving and even a “Snow” mode for low-traction surfaces.
The interior of the Genesis is equipped to a level expected to that of the mainstream luxury German sedans. Premium leather seating surfaces, real wood trim throughout the cabin, and side and rear sunshades are just a few of the available features. A Grammy® award winning 17-speaker Lexicon® Audio system is available to compliment the 9.2-inch high-resolution touchscreen display. A premium navigation system allows you to easy enter your destination while giving you clear turn-by-turn directions. A first for a passenger vehicle, the Genesis is equipped with a CO2 sensor that will automatically activate the ventilation system giving you fresh air if CO2 levels get too high.
Hyundai has triumphantly managed to go from a producer of cheap, low quality cars to a manufacturer of quality luxury vehicles. With the success of the Genesis in such a short amount of time it will be interesting to see where they manage to take themselves in the future. The Hyundai Genesis competes against the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
