Jeep used to be known for making only utilitarian off-road SUVs but in recent years they have been working hard to show their sensitive side. This new approach shows most clearly in the current generation Grand Cherokee. Having been on the market since 2011 and receiving a facelift in 2013, it’s clear the current Grand Cherokee is more refined than ever before. The exterior is elegant yet powerful featuring bold curves and creases in the body panels as well as LED running lights and chrome trim. Overall the Grand Cherokee is capable of being just as distinguished as other luxury SUVs on the market.
The Grand Cherokee gives you a choice of three engines giving you the versatility you need. A 3.6L V6 producing 290-hp and 260 lb/ft of torque comes standard or if range is your number one goal then go for the diesel with its 730 mile range and best in class towing of 7,400lbs. A big 5.7L V8 is also available featuring 360-hp and 390 lb/ft of torque along with the same 7,400lb towing capacity. All-wheel drive is available on all models of course and features Jeep’s new signature Selec-Terrain® traction control system. This adaptive system gives the driver a number of driving modes including snow, sand, mud and a rock crawl mode. An automatic mode allows the vehicle to change instantly to changes in driving conditions. An additional air suspension system is also available with a number of ride heights and a setting to lower the vehicle for easier ingress and egress.
The interior is where the Grand Cherokee really begins to shine. All trim levels feature a large digital driver information display and multifunction steering wheel. Higher trim levels feature a very large center touchscreen multimedia system and quality leather seating surfaces. Overland and Summit trims have the option to be fitted with fine Nappa leather normally found in upper-range Audis and BMWs. The interior is very roomy and with all buttons easily within reach every drive in the Grand Cherokee is bound to be comfortable and relaxing. With prices starting at just over $30,000 the Grand Cherokee is earning points in all fields against the established luxury SUVs. The Jeep Grand Cherokee competes against the Audi Q7, BMW X5, and Mercedes GLE-Class.
