AMG is the hardcore division of Mercedes-Benz just as M Sport is for BMW. Having their own headquarters in Affalterbach, Germany, AMG typically won’t make bespoke vehicles themselves but rather give us tuned, pumped up versions of standard vehicles such as the C-Class and S-Class. The Mercedes AMG GT S is only the second vehicle to come out of AMG behind the iconic gullwing Mercedes SLS. Although having a smaller engine, lower power output levels, and (just) conventional doors, the AMG GT S still manages to be faster than it’s SLS father. The same huge front nostrils, beautiful tapered silhouette, sonorous exhaust note as the SLS make the AMG GT S is a true successor to the gullwing.
The AMG GT S is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 sending 503-hp and 479 lb/ft to the rear wheels. The two turbos are mounted inside the “V” allowing them to come to temperature faster all in the name of throttle response. AMG even managed to tune the engine to produce all 479 lb/ft of torque at just 1,750 rpm. The transmission is even mounted in the back for better weight distribution. A sport-tuned adaptive suspension keeps the AMG GT S flat and level when pushing the limit. The AMG GT S can sprint to 60mph in as little as 3.7 seconds.
Inside the AMG GT S is a perfect blend of luxury and performance. The flat bottom steering wheel is heavily bolstered and is weighted perfectly. The 8.4” screen is positioned above the large control interface between the driver and passenger. A number of switches and buttons straddle the main multimedia control incorporating a touchpad for easy scrolling. The AMG dynamic select switch can totally alter the vehicle from being a soft, comfortable long distance cruiser to being a raging, fire breathing track monster in race mode or anything in between. The AMG GT S is a true do-anything vehicle and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face whenever you decide to get behind the wheel. The Mercedes AMG GT S competes against the BMW M6, Maserati GranTourismo, and Porsche 911.
