Although the name Pagani is only now growing quickly in popularity, the company has actually been producing cars since 1999. Succeeding the brilliant Zonda, the Huayra is one of the most desirable cars on earth. Limited to only 100 examples, the Huayra is named after the South American God of Wind. This name could not be more fitting with the way the Huayra manages the air around it. With two independent flaps on the front and rear of the vehicle, these flaps move to create more downforce on whatever corner needs the extra grip when cornering. Pagani went to extreme lengths to develop this technology by partnering with to aerospace company Boeing- a first in the industry. Pagani put as much effort into the Huayra’s styling as it did it’s aerodynamics-even with the smallest of features. An example of this is seen in the wing mirrors that were styled to resemble the shape of a woman’s eye.
The Pagani Huayra is powered by twin-turbo 6.0L V12 hand-built by a single Mercedes AMG technician. The massive powerplant sends 730-hp to the rear wheels through a seven-speed sequential transmission and allows the Huayra to sprint to 60 mph in quick 3.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 230 mph. Massive carbon ceramic rotors clamp down to slow down the Huayra and allow an impressive braking time of just 4.3 seconds from 124mph to a dead stop.
Although the driving dynamics and powertrain of the Huayra are impressive, the interior is a true work of art. The cabin of the Huayra is a beautiful mix of polished metal, glossy carbon fiber, and fine Italian leather. The switchgear is all milled out of aluminum as the key that takes more than a solid day to mill and costs an impressive $3,700 in you are in need of another one. The touchscreen multimedia system controls a number of vehicle functions including a system allowing you to fill the cabin with any color ambient lighting you like.
Pagani was able to break into the lofty hypercar ceiling by creating a vehicle so different and unique that it couldn’t help but be noticed. With new variants of the Huayra on the way it will be interesting to see how Pagani can outdo itself and create the next generation of hypercar. The Pagani Huayra competes against other hypercars such as the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and Porsche 918 Spyder.
