The Porsche Boxster is Porsche’s small sports car.  This perfectly balanced two-seater convertible is a shape that is instantly recognizable and will undoubtedly continue to be a best seller.  Now in it’s fourth generation, the Boxster has been renamed the 718 Boxster as a nod to the open-cockpit racing car from the late 1950’s. Along with the name change, the 718 Boxster (718 for short) receives subtle styling updates that draw inspiration from the recent 911 facelift. New LED accented headlights and full LED taillights add to redesign. Per the familiar Porsche Boxster formula, you have your choice of various color cloth top that folds down easily at a push of a button.
Although the exterior has only received mild updates, mechanically the 718 is all new. An all-new 2.0L boxer four-cylinder is standard while a 2.5L boxer four-cylinder if found in the updated “S” Model. Although the familiar flat-six engines are gone, power has increased to 300-hp in the base model and 350-hp for the 718 Boxster S. Acceleration times are reflected in the power increases as the Boxster can reach 60mph in as little as four seconds flat. Keeping the driving purists happy, Porsche has decided to keep the manual transmission while the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is still an available option. A firm sports suspension is standard on both trims while an adaptive suspension is available (and recommended) with a number of settings ranging from a soft comfort setting to a track-ready sport+ setting.
The interior of the Boxster has changed little which in reality is actually a very good thing. The only change you might notice is the new steering wheel taken from Porsche’s 918 Spyder hybrid. A new multimedia system is also available featuring Apple® CarPlay, an updated navigation system, and even wireless Internet access. The seats are lined with fine leather or your choice of Alcantara and are well bolstered while still being comfortable for those longer drives with the top down. The Porsche 718 Boxster competes against the BMW Z4, Audi TT Roadster and Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class.
