Now successfully emerging as their own brand, Ram has been catching up to the Ford F-150 in both sales and quality. With an almost infinite number of trim, engine, cab, and bed length options, if you are looking for a workhorse truck then a Ram 3500 should certainly be in your sights. Although you might think the Ram 3500 is no brains and all brawn you’d be incorrect. Behind that big powerful grille lies a set of active grille shutters that open when the engine needs extra air to stay cool but otherwise remain closed allowing for reduced frontal drag and overall improved efficiency. If you are planning on carrying some tools wherever you go we recommend buying a Ram 3500 equipped with the Rambox® Cargo Management System. This system employs a set of cargo boxes built into the sides of the truck bed.
When it comes down to it the Ram 3500 is a working truck and it has all the features to handle anything in your path. A number of engines ranging from the base 5.7L V8 to the powerful 385-hp 6.7L I6 diesel and it’s 12,300lb towing capacity. The engine we would suggest is the 6.7L I6 diesel. Although it has a lower output than the V8, its high torque figure allows a nearly identical towing capacity to the larger V8 while having considerably better fuel economy.
No matter what you plan on using your Ram truck for you can be guaranteed there will be an interior trim to match. The base tradesman models are perfect for contractor fleets featuring low cost amenities and a durable cloth interior. From there on however the sky is the limit. Available technology ranges from the customizable multiview display dashboard to the available Uconnect® System featuring voice command, 3D terrain maps, and other controls all from the large central touchscreen. A full Nappa leather interior is also available giving you a soft, comfortable ride whenever you go for a drive.
The Ram 3500 is an everyday workhorse capable of meeting your needs to the letter whether you need a plain contractor’s truck or rather you want to ride in luxury and occasionally pick up something from the hardware store. The Ram 1500 competes against other light-duty trucks such as the Chevrolet Silverado 3500, Ford F-350, and the GMC Sierra 3500.
