The Volkswagen Touareg is VW’s largest SUV. The built on the same platform as the Audi Q7 and upcoming Bentley Bentayga, the Touareg has a wide powerful stance fitting of any luxury SUV. Following a recent facelift for 2015, the Touareg features a redesigned aggressive front fascia incorporating a larger grille and new LED daytime running lights. The rear end has also received an update with new rear taillights and a cleaner, dual triangular exhaust.
The base Touareg features a 3.6L V6 that produces 280-hp sending power to all four wheels through an 8-speed transmission. Multiple available safety technologies keep you and your occupants safe ranging from a blind spot monitoring system to a full adaptive cruise control system with an autonomous emergency braking system. Other systems like a lane change assistant system are also available although we’d suggest saving the money and just pay attention to the road.
The interior of the Volkswagen Touareg is truly first class. The seating surfaces on LUX and above models are fine made of Verona leather. A large center touchscreen comes standard on all models complete with a multimedia interface and easy to use switchgear. The steering wheel and cluster gauge work in tandem to allow the driver to see all vehicle diagnostics on the fly with the touch of a button. A massive panoramic roof is also available letting sunlight rear every inch of the interior. The foot-operated liftgate makes for easy loading and unloading, even when having your hands full. With the rear seats folded down the Touareg becomes capable of holding nearly anything you might have to put inside it.
The Volkswagen Touareg might not be your first choice for an SUV and for that we don’t blame you. However when you consider it’s lower base price than a similarly equipped Audi (lets not even get into the Bentley) while still having the same level of comfort and equipment, the argument for buying a Volkswagen Touareg begins coming into focus. With the recent Audi Q7 overhaul we can’t wait to see how the new platform is adapted to suit the future Touareg. The Volkswagen Touareg competes against the Buick Enclave, GMC Yukon, and Toyota Sequoia.
